The Best Time to Buy a Car
One of the most asked questions about buying a car is “When is the best time to buy?” This is a good question because buying a car at the right time could possibly save you thousands! To get the best answer to this question, let’s break it down into two sections:
What’s the best time of the month to buy a car?
While some people may have different experiences, we find that the best day of the month to purchase a new vehicle is the last, or second to last day of the month. The reason for this is simple. Car manufacturers and dealerships usually have some type of promotion going where the dealership gets extra incentives like more money for selling a certain number of vehicles. These promotions always run from the start of the month to the end of the month (or it may span several months.) The point is, towards the end of the month a dealer is liable to strike the best deals — possibly even “giving the car away” for invoice price — just so they can meet the requirements of their current promotion. Even if there is not a promotion at the time, the dealership probably still wants to get rid of some of their inventory to prepare for the next month.
What’s the best time of the year to buy a car?
As with most other items, the best time to buy a car is towards the end of the year. This is because the dealerships are likely to have the best promotions going so that they can get rid of inventory and prepare for the next year’s models to arrive. So, to get the best deal consider buying in September, October, November or possibly December. Remember, wait until the last or second to last day of the month.
A word of advice
Try to keep in mind that you are not the only person seeking the best time to buy a car. Because of this, you should expect to run into larger-than-normal crowds at the dealerships during these times. This means you will probably encounter more delays and less attention from the salespeople than you originally expected.
